Special News Bulletin from the President

Dear Oklahoma Correctional Association Members

The recent OCA, NABCJ and OCP conference was outstanding.  The 300 plus that attended some if not all of the conference was a great testament to the planning committee.   The diversity and quality of the exhibits was good.  I was proud of the OCA staff that worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the conference.  OCA Past-President Penny Brooksher, Jose Salinas OCA Conference Chair along with Terry Martin, OCA President Elect, executive staff Christie Kornele, Leda Rees and the other OCA members did an excellent job of organizing our OCA members to assist with a number of key areas at the conference that allowed things to flow smoothly. This OCA report will list the names of those that have been elected into new OCA positions of leadership. Welcome and I look forward to working with you to serve OCA.

As the theme of this past conference suggest it is “All About You” and the sacrifices you make for the Citizens of Oklahoma, Department of Corrections, and the Oklahoma Correctional Association.   The future is uncertain but one thing remains the same we are still committed to being the best organization in the state.   I am requesting your continued support for this great organization that we are all love.  I hope we can work together to strengthen our agency, encourage employees, increase our membership and work together for a great Conference in 2012.

I welcome the suggestions of our members and want to encourage and challenge you to become involved with your organization. In speaking with department of correction senior staff we discussed the fact that a number of our agency leaders have been members of OCA and served in key leadership roles.  I have asked them to get more involve in 2012.  If you read this and are not a member of our organization I invite you to find out what makes OCA so very special. I am humbled to serve you as your new president.
Let’s get started great things await us in 2012.
